Information About

Sandbagging

We are basing our calculations on one ton of fine sand  weighing 2,000 pounds.

Sandbagging Yields:

  • •   40 bags weighing 50 Lbs. each.

At the local big box hardware store a 50 pound bag of fine sand is sold for $ 4.98.

The cost of 1 ton of fine sand at the material supply store counter is $22.60.

There are 40 fifty pound bags in a ton of sand (2000 pounds).

Sand cost per bag: It takes the cost of the sand divided by the 40 bags weighing 50 Lbs. each.

•   $22.60 /40 = $ .57 per bag

Labor per bag is about 12 cents if a worker produces 3 sandbags per minute or 180 per hour calculated on a salary of $20.00 per hour.

A 3 mil bag measuring 16 x 24 inches costs 20 cents on the internet.

Total Cost for a 50 pound sandbag of fine sand: $.57 (bag) + $.12 (Labor) + $.20 (bag) = a cost of $.89 per 50 pound sandbag.

A $20 per hour employee yearly salary for this sandbagging operation is about $ 41,600 When divided by 12, this equals a labor charges of $ 3,466.00 monthly, two employees would be $ 6,932 monthly. Initially two employees sandbagging 20,000 bags per month (the machine has productivity up to 50,000) would cost:

  • •   $6,932/20,000 = $ 0,35 bag

Cost of sandbagging:

  • •   $ 0.57 cost of sand for each 50 pound sandbag
  • •   $ 0.20 cost of packaging
  • •   $ $.35 labor each sandbag on an annual basis
  • •   $ 1.12 - total cost for a 50 pound sandbag.

Sandbagging generates on average a profit margin of 400%, when sold at the going retail price of $4.98 for the 50 pound bag.
